It is an exciting prospect to get a new garage door replacement. You can check out our roller garage doors and start designing your own door now.

But before you get your new garage door you want to make sure you are prepared beforehand for a smooth garage door installation with little hassle. Whether it’s a roll-up door installation or standard, there are certain steps you must take for a clean garage door installation.

The garage door is an important part of home renovations and can often be the most difficult element to get right, considering it’s the biggest single item for your house. You want your new garage door replacement to be smoother, faster, quieter and operate better than your old one. So, making sure your garage door installation goes well is essential and will shape how your house looks from the outside.

At Garolla, we understand it can be frustrating to organise your installation, but there are some things you can do to make your life easier. To properly organise the arrival of your new door, read on and discover our tips on how to prepare for a new garage door installation and make it a simple process.

Our Garage Door Installation Tips

Make space and organise your garage beforehand. This is possibly the most important step to remember. Keeping your garage clear will give you the space to install the door properly. Here are a few tips to get your garage in order before your new garage door replacement is installed.

Pre-installation checklist

Move your vehicles out of the garage — While Garolla electric roller doors free up space in your garage, thanks to our neat and tidy top box system, our engineers will need a clear space in order to carry out the installation. Moving any vehicles out of the garage in advance will enable our engineers to crack on with the job.

Keep your garage clean— This is another simple way to prepare for your garage door installation, and keeping all the main areas of your garage clean and tidy can help speed up the process. It doesn’t need to win any awards for cleanliness, but make sure you clear out any junk or clutter that could get in the way. It’s especially important to clear out any mess that’s close to electrical outlets, as this will be used for your openers and any electrical components for your new garage door.

Decide on location for the control box – You should pick out the location of where you want your wall-mounted control box.

Again, this will help speed up your installation process for when your garage door arrives. When deciding where the control box should go, there are a few factors to keep in mind.

Firstly, the control box needs to be close to an electrical outlet to power the door. If the outlet is at the back of your garage or out of reach, it will be a good idea to get an extender cord and remove anything that could obstruct the wires to avoid any accidental trips/falls. The wall console can be installed where you want, but most people tend to have it installed near the door.

Keep the driveway clear

When your garage door arrives, you must make sure you keep your driveway clear. Our garage door engineers will most likely need access to your drive to install the new door, and having it clear will save time and hassle. It also allows the garage door engineers more room to work in, and they will need access to both the interior and exterior of the garage for the fitting. This will generally help speed up the process and help get your garage door properly installed.

Tell your neighbours about the garage installation

It can be a noisy process to install a new garage door, so it is nice to give your neighbours notice of the installation in advance. It never hurts to keep on good terms with your neighbour, especially around home renovations, where you have lots going on in your house that might disturb the peace. Not only that, but it could also avoid an awkward encounter down the road. Just remember happy neighbours, happy life.

Before installing, keep family members and pets clear

Although you may only be installing a garage door, you still have to keep safety in mind for yourself and your family. Take responsibility to keep pets and family members clear while the installation is taking place. Garage doors can be dangerous and the components that come with them can be very heavy and sharp. You must keep children and pets out of the area to avoid a serious accident or injury. Ensure you don’t turn the joy of your garage door replacement into a trip to the vet or hospital.

What Happens During a Garolla Installation?

So you’ve decided to order a Garolla roller garage door, but what comes next?

From ordering to installation, we strive to make the whole process as quick and easy as possible. Combining our knowledgeable customer care team, with the expertise of our engineers, we can ensure the quality and speed of every single installation at Garolla.

Choosing from our roller shutter garage doors is the hard part. Once you’ve made the choice it couldn’t be easier to place your order.

You can either send an inquiry form via our website or, alternatively, contact us directly on 0800 468 1027. From there the process is the same. A friendly member of our customer care team will arrange for one of our local garage door engineers to come and accurately measure your garage opening and check that there are no barriers to the work going ahead.

Once these measurements are taken and an electric garage door, including the colour and any optional extras, is chosen from our range, we will then be able to give you an accurate price. Your order will then be taken and we will begin to manufacture your garage door to your exact specifications.

An installation date and time will then be set, so all you have to do is sit back and wait.

We install electric garage doors UK-wide, with our own team of local engineers spread across the country. The engineer who measured your home will also be the one to install your garage door, so you only ever deal with one person. This allows you to get to know them a little better and limits the possibility of human error.

On the day of your installation, a Garolla installer will arrive with your new roller shutter garage door and all of the tools they will need to complete the installation. Subject to the survey, they will start by removing your old door, careful to not damage any surrounding structures and tidying up as they do so.

Once removed, they can then go about fitting your Garolla garage door into the now-empty entryway. This includes fitting the guide rails and top box which houses our unique octagonal barrel system. The door curtain and control box are then installed before final checks are done to ensure everything is working correctly.

We will then clear any tools that have been used and remove your old door to be properly disposed of. At Garolla, installations usually take half a day to complete so you can start to feel the benefits of your new electric garage door the same day of your installation.

Once you are sure you’re happy with your door, the installer will put you in contact with our head office who will then arrange your final payment. Should you need any additional information, or have any issues, our customer care team are at hand 6 days a week to answer your calls. You can reach them at 0800 468 1027.

  2. Follow the Provided Instructions: Your provider should have given you detailed instructions with the garage door order. Carefully following these will help ensure a proper, efficient installation.
  3. Use the Correct Fix Method: Depending on your garage’s internal space, you might need to use a face fix or a restricted fit for installation. Ensure you’re using the correct method for the best results.
  4. Keep Your Workspace Clean: Put down a dust sheet and tidy up any mess you make during installation. This helps minimise post-installation cleanup and lets you admire your work more quickly.
